Neil/new bullshit, is still bullshit

I liked Neil Tyson, I really looked forward to his take on Cosmos as well, but after his second appearance on Joe Rogan, imo, he turned into the Dawkin's sounding SouthPark character with the "not a douche" attitude.

I was on the side of the atheist, not the doubter, I doubt a lot of things.

What starts to grind my gears is in the efforts to completely sterilize and mock the past and drive a wedge in thinking, they will take something like comets, meteorites, and asteroids.

With a smug as smile they mock, ancient people thought these were doom omens.

But now we know they are just space rocks that are beautiful and should be marveled at.

My biggest problem with this is the double edge sword that Sagan tripped on and that Neil pulled from the stone and tripped on. In order to not be a king like the old kings I will do it like this...still a king.

Carl Sagan said, "We are a way for the Universe to know itself."

Well great, but he also said, "Extraordinary claims, require extraordinary evidence."

So how does he know we are a way for the Universe to know itself and why does he get to be the prophet or painter or philosopher by which this claim gets a pass?

When people use this same equation about why does LIFE create Life? Or God create living things to have a relationship with?

In both scenarios we could be the data and experience miners of the Cosmic Mind.

Neil likes to jump in a fight, but he isn't trained to fight, but he watched some boxing and grew up on WWF. He wants to bully gods too.

In an effort to minimize our equating comets with doom he fails to recognize that we are in a cosmic "shooting gallery" or "pinball" table and comets brings death and destruction. Simple pulling the Willy Wonka and enjoying paradise by viewing it isn't the same as going through it. Witness a car crash, experience a car crash.

Who gets to describe the car crash? Who is more accurate. The person living the crash or the person describing the crash from a viewpoint that exists based on their existence prior to the event and that paints their ability to detail the scenery in the mind of a note taker and relater.

Downplaying the ancient fear of comets is what caused the Word to go silent until 4004 BC. Remember the Younger Dryas impacts may have looked spectacular but that was the outsider crossing into our map and demanded reverences and respect too, not just a sterilization story and a minimizing of other's family histories.

In the efforts to seem distance from the old ways he falls into the trap of accepting all new things and rejecting all old practices. He leaves no place for wisdom in his attempt to be practical.
